Blue
Canyon Country Club, located at Mai Khao on 730 acres of prime land,
is recognized as being amongst the most exclusive golfing
establishments in the region. Cradled in a secluded, verdant valley,
against a magnificent backdrop of majestic mountain views, the Blue
Canyon Country Club basks in Phuket's tropical sunshine.
The
Club is just minutes away from Phuket International Airport and the
beautiful Nai Yang Beach and about 29km from Phuket Town.
Blue
Canyon Country Club offers you two 18 holes championship golf
courses, a 49 bedroom Golfers' Lodge and condominium apartment for
sale and for long or short term lease.
Developed
in 1988 from an old tin mine and rubber plantations, both the golf
courses are molded around the existing canyons and rubber
plantations, with minimal disruption to the natural landscape. It
was the belief of many that the land was made for a golf course.
In
an age when many of Asia's new golf courses are little more than
man-made monstrosities, the Blue Canyon developer and course
designer, Mr. Yoshikazu Kato, went out of their way to ensure that
the interference with nature was minimal.
In
doing so, only 250,000 cubic metres of earth was moved at the Canyon
Course. The average for most modern courses is between two and three
million. To have moved any more earth and tampered with the rubber
plantation and tin mine would have been an environmental disaster.
Therefore, what has been created is a masterpiece of golf course
design with spectacular, sometimes daunting, natural hazards, plus
acres of lake accentuated by towering trees.
Since
Blue Canyon Country Club opened its doors in late 1991, the Canyon
Course has played host to the 1994 and 1998 Johnnie Walker Classics
and the Honda Invitational in 1996, welcoming world ranked players
the likes of Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Ernie Els etc.
As
a world championship golf course, the Canyon Course has also won
international awards namely the, "Asian & Pacific Golf
Course of the Year 1999" by Hertz International Golf Travel
Awards - London and the "Top 500 Best Holes in the World"
for its par 3, hole 17th.
Following
the success of the challenging Canyon Course, the Lakes Course
opened in 1999, offering a whole new challenge to the game of golf
with water hazards on 17 out of 18 holes. It is a mixture of
water-filled canyons created by open cast mining with its natural
land flow left relatively unchanged
Its
front 9 holes run through a landscape of lakes and natural canyons,
whilst the back 9 weaves its way through scenic lakes and soft
whispering woodlands of rubber trees. Gentle winds at 10mph
constantly add a challenging dimension to any game
The
Lakes Course distinctly features one of the largest greens and is
already reputed to have one of the best finishing holes in this part
of the world.
Its
panoramic mountain views across many lakes provides a memorable
golfing environment for golfers.
At
Blue Canyon, its not only the course which leaves an impression. The
clubhouse offers Thai, Japanese and Continental cuisine, and the
spacious opulently designed changing facilities, Jacuzzis, steam
room, sauna and massage facilities, are without equal in the Asia
Pacific. The Blue Canyon Golf School, tennis courts and swimming
pools offers the perfect golfing retreat with a internationally
reputed management and service standards one can only find in the
exotic surrounds of Thailand
In
fact, Blue Canyon Country Club was recently awarded the "Asian
& Pacific Golf Resort of the Year 2000" by the Hertz
International Golf Travel Awards, and is also a member of the
prestigious "Finest Golf Clubs of the World"
